What the hell is Valentine’s Day anyway and why does it exist?
I’m proud to say that I’ve never celebrated it. I don’t see the point of it. I don’t need gifts or a fancy dinner to feel love from someone. I don’t need a ‘special day’ to be reminded that I’m loved. I believe that Valentine’s Day is just a stupid day for companies to suck money out of you.
In my eyes, love and money are too interconnected these days. We need to be gifted material possessions to show the world that we are loved. Weddings are becoming more and more extravagant, engagement parties are becoming mini weddings in themselves. We need to show everyone how in love we are by throwing the biggest parties and uploading them to our social channels as proof. How did it become like this? Is it the rise of social media or the rise of consumerism? Probably both. Love is just another way in which you can show people how much money you have.
