I haven’t updated our progress in a while, so I will just share photos from the past few weeks of the biggest changes. Last weekend was a monumental weekend – we got internet, a fridge and a washing machine. Artur’s parents came for a week and brought a carload of plants. We also gave our a […]
Monday to Thursdays in Berlin, Fridays to Sundays in Brandenburg. Only 70km separates Neukölln from Fröhden, yet they are worlds apart. I work my tech job during the week then put my gumboots on and play a farmer over the weekend. I see the difference in the way I dress – black and fitted in Berlin, baggy and […]
After such a warm and sunny weekend, we were greeted the next Friday with snow. This meant that our gardening was put on hold again for a week.
Such a nice warm weekend, a huge contrast to the previous minus temperature + no heating weekend! We took advantage of the warmth and sunshine by spending most of the time working in the garden. We built a bed for vegetables, a mini greenhouse and planted our first vegetable seeds, as well as replanted some […]

We had a large group of five this weekend and managed to get quite a bit of painting done. The walls of the dining room and small bedroom were both painted (grey and yellow, respectively) and we painted five doors. A couch was also made from pallets, a single mattress and some bricks.
This was the first weekend Artur and I spent at Fröhden without any visitors or guests. We worked pretty much the whole time, from Friday afternoon to Sunday dusk. By the end, I was pretty exhausted and was happy to return to Berlin to do nothing. Though I did discover the best way to unwind after […]
This weekend we did less than I had expected/hoped. I underestimated the amount of time it takes to paint a window. (First you have to scrub away the old paint and then vacuum.) Artur made amazing progress on the weeding, but as Jessica and I spent most of our time inside cleaning and painting, the […]
